Piece Description

A poem by three students from the Santa Fe Indian School's Spoken Word team -- Santana Shorty, Clara Natonabah, and Nolan Eskeets -- about understanding their mixed identities: half Diné (Navajo) and half European heritage. In the poem, they authors remember themselves at birth and growing up coming to terms with who they were. They make reference to the CIB, or Certificate of Indian Blood, and identification card issued by the Bureau of Indian Affairs to enrolled tribal members proving their Native ancestry.
