When he performed at Jazz Fest after Hurricane Katrina, Bruce Springsteen chose to roll out a song from the 30s updated for the 21st century disaster that had just occurred... and people were blown away.
The song, originally written Alfred Reed and covered by a strange and entertaining collection of people, was augmented by Springsteen with an extra verse he wrote just days before the performance. The history and lineage of the song is interesting and entertaining in and of itself, but Springsteen's treatment, in the wake of New Orleans' destruction, takes it to a whole new level.
