Part One: MEMORIAL DAY In honor of our military men and women serving in Afghanistan and Iraq, we look at the real cost of war with U. S. Army, 1st Lieutenant, Paul Rieckhoff. The various original rationales for the ?Shock and Awe? campaign must be weighed against our now well over 1,600 dead soldiers and more than 11,888 U. S. military injured. Without sufficient boots on the ground and without enough armored vehicles available to support our troops overseas, are we at least prepared to properly support those lucky enough to return home alive? We ask these and other questions of Paul Rieckhoff, founder of the veterans advocacy group, Operation Truth.
OPTIONAL CUTAWAY CUE: ?That?s 1-8-7-7 M-A-R-Y-K-N-O-L-L" at 14:00.
Part Two: ?MISSION ACCOMPLISHED?? Our soldiers and their families are not the only ones impacted by the prosecution of the preemptive war with Iraq. We explore the claim of liberation through the eyes of Dr. Dahlia Wasfi, an Iraqi who came to live in the United States with her parents and sister, when she was 5 years old. Wasfi spent 2 months last year with her cousins in Basra and she articulates their feelings and experiences.
End Cue: ?And please be sure to join us next time for more Voices of Our World.? At 28:00.
Can be broadcast at 14:00 or 28:00 minutes. Format fits well into either time slot.
