Maze featuring Frankie Beverly began in Philadelphia as Frankie Beverly & the Butlers. Roame joined the band when it changed its name to RAW SOUL featuring Frankie Beverly. After meeting Marvin Gaye, the band changed its name to Maze featuring Frankie Beverly per his suggestion. That was in 1977 and the rest is history.
