Piece Description
This ThoughtCast hour begins with a discussion of the recent publication of Thoreau's Journal, the daily practice of writing that accompanied his nature walks. Then Jonah Lehrer, the author of Proust was a Neuroscientist, and most recently of How We Decide, examines the science of decision making, the power of wishful thinking to hijack our reason, and the potential to retrain the brain via the mind.
He is followed by an in-depth interview with the philosopher and novelist Rebecca Goldstein, on her new book 36 Arguments for the Existence of God! We then talk with the greatest living classical music impresario, as he looks back at his legacy. And we conclude with a close look at Lydia Ratcliff's Lovejoy Brook Farm, in Andover Vermont, and its struggle to survive.
