In his early years, he teamed with harpist Chicago Bob Nelson in a band called the Heartfixers wowing crowds in Atlanta.  Nelson left, and the Heartfixers then backed Blues shouter Nappy Brown on his 1984 album “Tore Up.” 

Ellis launched his own solo career and as been a road warrior on the blues circuit ever since.
