INTRO:

Less than five percent of the seed varieties available one hundred years ago still exist today, according to the Seed Savers Exchange, a nationwide heirloom gardener’s organization. Will Bonsall of Industry, Maine is one of the many seed-savers working to prevent further loss of food crop diversity. His Scatterseed Project is an attempt to preserve genetic diversity by growing rare varieties for seed and distributing the seed to gardeners around the world. It’s the largest effort of it’s kind in the country.
