Virtuoso Voices - Olli Mustonen (Bone Structure)

From: Listener Directed Productions, Inc.
Length: :24

Vivaldi wrote the Four Seasons, but Tchaikovsky wrote music for each month of the year. "The Seasons" might just be one of Tchaikovsky’s most inventive and delightful works – just not as well known as the Vivaldi. Pianist Olli Mustonen says Tchaikovsky found a way to capture the character of each month. Use this 24 second clip to introduce Olli Mustonen playing "The Seasons" by Tchaikovsky (complete of excerpts). Scroll down to read the Suggested Host Intro, Outro and a transcript. SUGGESTED HOST INTRO
Vivaldi wrote the Four Seasons, but Tchaikovsky wrote music for each month of the year.  "The Seasons" might just be one of Tchaikovsky’s most inventive and delightful works – just not as well known as the Vivaldi. Pianist Olli Mustonen (Moose-toe-nen) says Tchaikovsky found a way to capture the character of each month.

CLIP TRANSCRIPT
“There is a very classical bone structure, (laughs) sort of supporting the music, and I think often for an interpreter to find very simple solutions it’s a very good goal and it is precisely because of this very simple approach that makes the emotional impact even more powerful and somehow very, very touching.”

SUGGESTED HOST OUTRO
Pianist Olli Mustonen (Moose-toe-nen) takes a Zen-like approach to bring out the charming complexities found in Tchaikovsky’s set of seasonal caricatures.  There’s one for each month.  We’ll hear pianist Olli Mustonen play (insert month(s) or introduce complete work).
