When climbers on Mount Rainier get into trouble, they can count on help from the local climbing rangers. Rangers are highly experienced mountaineers who brave the worst conditions and risk their own lives to save others. But even though the rangers aren't the ones in trouble, they don't come out of the rescues unscathed. Bree Loewen was a ranger for five years; it was a dream she'd had since she was a kid. The reality, though, was more than she could ultimately handle. Bree writes about some of her rescues and recoveries on Mount Rainier in her new book, "Pickets and Dead Men." Bree Loewen spoke with KUOW's Jeremy Richards about how the work changed her life.
