Piece Description
In this hour of The Blues & Beyond, we'll feature Otis Taylor's album "Pentatonic Wars & Love Songs" and the new album from Christian McBride "Kind Of Brown." Otis Taylor always provides musically challenging and thought-provoking albums. He's certainly one of the very few people who could be called an "avant garde blues musician." His surrealistic songs contain haunting imagery and borrow from the techniques of minimalist composers to produce what has sometimes been called "trance blues." Pianist Jason Moran helps Taylor create the trance state.
We'll also hear music from bassist Christian McBride's album "Kind Of Brown" an obvious nod to Miles Davis's "Kind Of Blue." McBride's band is called Inside Straight, a name given by fans who won a contest to name the band. We'll also visit "Kind of Blue" as well .... and we have music from Alice Coltrane and Chico Hamilton.
