Piece Description
“WorldCanvass“ explores topics that are international in scope and central to our understanding of ourselves as part of the global landscape.
“WorldCanvass” host Joan Kjaer blends discussions of culture, history, literature, language, politics and art with live musical performances, all in an effort to illustrate and illuminate the complexities that make us distinct from one another while celebrating our common humanity.
Each monthly “WorldCanvass” program embraces a different theme drawing on the rich and seemingly endless scholarly and experiential resources of the faculty, staff and students of International Programs at the University of Iowa. Production partners are the University of Iowa Pentacrest and Art Museums; UITV; and KRUI-FM.
This month's program is focused on human rights and was recorded on November 13, 2009.
Guests are: Michael Ratner, Burns Weston, Stephen Swanson, David Gompper, Chivy Sok, Amy Weismann, Kate Karacay, Ramon Lim, Pamela White, Kathrine Moermond, Dr. Joseph Buckwalter, Paul Etre, John Buchanan.

groundbreaking program!
The fusion of music, news and culture on Worldways is a refreshing change from the typical local programming (whether it is radio or television, etc.). This program is truly international as it addresses worldwide themes and brings together the viewpoints of a diverse section of the world's population. I can't wait to hear more!
