The Christmas Stocking
We have all heard of the ‘switches’ or the ‘coal’ in the Christmas stocking. About 20 years ago, I was told of a true story of a Presbyterian’s son putting switches in his younger sisters stocking. At the time, I believe was done for ‘pure’ unadulterated vengeance and not for instruction for his sister.
Norm, the use car salesman, tells this story to the men who have gather around the old pot bellied stove.
Mike is awaken early Christmas Morning. His sister has gotten their parents up at 3 in the morning, where she can find if Santa Claus has brought her heart desire - BB dolls - the letters (BB) do represent a doll that little girls collect and play with - Mike turns over and realizes this is day he will get his revenge for the weeks of the pestering, badgering and hearing the selfish desires of his sister, while he took her Christmas shopping. Mike does get his revenge. He does get his punishment for his deed. Years later, the sister comes to Mike to tell him, “Thanks for teaching me a lesson about what Christmas is about - Giving not taking.”
