The Last Christmas Tree
The Last Christmas Tree is told my Walt. Walt was the life long friend of the alcoholic, old man Lucas. Old man Lucas made the best moonshine in the three state area. The
local police were always looking for his stills. His shine could eat paint off a car. when swallow it would go down a persons’ throat like the sweetest spring water but when his ‘shine’ hit’ it was like an explosion blowing up solid granite - what experience to have have.
Mrs. Lilly with her three children go to the farmers market to find a $5 christmas tree.
Old man Lucas tells her that he will bring one by with lights that evening. Lucas takes a Christmas tree from the year before. He stands it up and shakes it. All the needles fall off. He flocks - covers the bare tree with white foam. In the middle night, he knocks on Mrs. Lilly’s door with this unbelievable looking tree. The children get and are thrill by this unusual tree. The oldest child takes and with the help of another puts the tree up and plugs the lights on. Lucas falls in a nearby chair - drunk.. He tells the children, “This is a magical tree. If plan it will grow into tree full of green needle. This is if you help people during the year.” Ms. Lilly stands next to the kitchen door. She cannot say anything against what old man Lucas is saying to her children.
With Walt ends the story, Harry the owner notices Walt’s eyes are watery. He knows old man Lucas had only told him this true story only weeks before his death. Old man Lucas had given his story to Walt as a special give and the reform alcoholic had given to these children the real meaning of Christmas.
