Even in farm country, where food is mass-produced, there are problems finding healthy and affordable food. Take Fresno County, California. This rural region in the fertile, sun-baked Central Valley is the most agriculturally productive county in the U.S. Yet, about a third of the residents her are food insecure. And the region's hunger problem just- got- worse. The state of California declared a state of emergency because of drought conditions. And for the past few months, its been funding the trucking in of tons of food to the hungry and unemployed here. Making Contact's Pauline Bartolone produced this story on the food crisis - taking us to Huron, a tiny farming community dubbed the' lettuce capital' of the U.S. Sandina Robbins narrates her story.
