Review of PRC-Anti Japan Demos

For a short news piece this makes good use of sound and descriptive writing. It covers an interesting subject seldomly noticed in the U.S., or other Western countries. Four minutes is understandable for radio programs with rigid time-slots, but I think this piece would benefit from an extra minute or so. It's a timely piece, but the Chinese tensions and anger discussed is not going away anytime soon. Perhaps adding some more voices, specifically getting "man-on-the-street" Japanese reactions to these demonstrations would help add some balance and human elements. Politcians aside, what do they think about it? At times the sound elements could be a bit tighter, but all in all, a well produced piece. Foreign news like this needs to be heard more.

INTRO:

Anti-Japanese demonstrations on Sunday spread to two southern Chinese cities following rowdy protests the previous day in Beijing. Steve Herman reports from Tokyo, where the Japanese government is calling the actions "gravely regrettable" and demanding action, and an apology, from the Chinese government.

TEXT:

As demonstrations flared in the Chinese cities of Guanghzou and Shenzen Sunday, Japan's Foreign Minister summoned the Chinese ambassador here to protest Saturday's violent anti-Japanese rally at the Japanese embassy in Beijing. The two diplomats looked grim and did not shake hands.

Foreign Minister Nobutaka Machimura says he told Ambassdor Wang Yi that Tokyo wants an apology, compensation for damage to the Japanese embassy and assurances that Japanese citizens and property in China won't be harmed.
