Piece Description
In this hour of The Blues & Beyond, we'll feature the new album "The French Connection" from Chicago blues singer Zora Young. "The French Connection" was recorded in France, where Young has toured more than twenty times and has a devoted following of fans. Young offers some fresh interpretation to some songs from the world of country music on the album, including a classic from "The Singing Ranger" Hank Snow, and a version of, believe it or not, "In The Ghetto." We'll also hear other songs that connect blues and country music, including a new song from Mac Arnold, an alumnus of the Muddy Waters Blues Band, and a classic Bobby "Blue" Bland version of a country hit that made it a favorite among blues artists. We'll hear country hits evolve into soul classics from Esther Phillips and Joe Simon, and Ruth Brown's Nashville remake of one of her biggest records, recorded nine years after the original. Super Chikan will do some blues yodeling for us, and, in his own hilarious way, offer commentary on race and music. Plus, we'll hear from the late Nashville bluesman Johnny Jones who passed away recently. Jones was a mentor to Jimi Hendrix, and a fixture on the Nashville blues scene for about a half century, and a great blues artist.
