“Main thing is to make sure it’s unplugged before you take off. It’s that simple.”
Eric Chamberlain, CEO of Evergreen Electric Vehicles, sells Zero Air Pollution, or ZAP cars, from his home in Baldwinsville. ZAP offers cars that cruise at 40 miles per hour for 40 miles on a charge.
“It’s just like any other car… Just turn the key on until the dashboard lights up and away we go.”
The ZAP car is limited in that it can’t travel fast enough for the highway. Chamberlain says he uses it for shorter trips around town.
“The motor you hear right now is the cooling fan … and we still have plenty of range.”
The newest model car maker Reva has unveiled would be an upgrade from the ZAP car. It travels 100 miles at 65 miles per hour. A Reva plant could also bring over 100 jobs to Central New York.
Governor David Paterson says he contacted Reva in May and the deal is now close to being done.
