NARR: Hace 12 años, Ana Estrada fue al doctor porque tenía gripa. Allí se enteró que también tenía cáncer del seno.
ANA: Yo dije ‘tengo 29 años de edad y este doctor está loco!’ porque teníamos la idea de que el cáncer de seno sobre todo era para mujeres mayores de 45 en adelante…tenía tanto temor, tanto miedo
NARR: Su temor es bien fundado. El cáncer del seno es la primera causa de muerte entre las latinas, y es más difícil de curar cuando ocurre antes de la menopausia. De acuerdo a estudios recientes, esta enfermedad es más común en latinas menores de 50 años.
DELGADO: Para la mujer latina encuentran que las mujeres son más jóvenes, el cáncer es más agresivo y no saben por qué.
NARR: La doctora Jane Delgado dirige la Alianza Nacional para la Salud Hispana, en la ciudad de Washington.
