A Musician's Life: Neko Case

Series: A Musician's Life
From: WXPN
Length: 00:05:00

Neko Case's torch-like voice has won her fans. But her genre-defying style--as well as her take on love and nature--set her apart from her contemporaries. On this edition of "A Musician's Life" she tells Tracey Tanenbaum that she writes songs for people like herself, who stand apart from the mainstream. Read the full description.

Nekocase_small Neko Case was born in Virginia and raised throughout North America.  She grew up on dairy farms, an only child.  Neko's 2006  album, "Fox Confessor Brings the Flood" and her most recent, "Middle Cyclone" both contain healthy references to the natural world. It's possible that Neko's focus on whales, spiders, ants and foxes stems from her early exposure to pets and animals of all kinds.

Neko Case spent time in punk bands before forming a backing group The Boyfriends and then ultimately recording on her own.  She has also contributed to the Canadian collective The New Pornographers.
