Eye_of_my_heart_small

Much is made of the joys and trials of becoming a mother, but there’s not always as much interest in the experiences of the other woman in a baby's life: the newly-minted grandmother.

"Eye of My Heart: 27 Writers Reveal the Hidden Pleasures and Perils of Being a Grandmother," is a book of essays by writers turned grandmothers whose experiences are as varied as their grandchildren. They show us that this role brings with it a whole new set of rewards, challenges and questions, including negotiating your title. Are you a Granny, Grandma or Nona, or none of the above? In this discussion, the collection’s editor, Barbara Graham, and one of its contributors, Marita Golden, give us a glimpse into the world of the modern grandmother. They tell us about everything from the sometimes tense interactions with brand-new- and sometimes defensive- parents to the special rewards that can come with being a stepgrandparent.

Then …The authors of “The Menopause Book” have set out to answer every question that surfaces during this phase of a woman’s life, from what to make of hormone therapy to understanding hot flashes. Award-winning journalists Pat Wingert and Barbara Kantrowitz say their comprehensive, research-backed book is the antidote to the quick-fix, miracle-cure pitches often made to women experiencing menopause.

To find out what they’ve learned from experts about losing weight, salvaging your sex life and making it (happily) through to the other side, tune-in to this frank half-hour discussion with Prime Time Radio’s Mike Cuthbert. To listen, press play on the audio player.
