A truly amazing musical production with students from the Wedding district in Berlin.
This is THEIR story, made to music. The students sing, rap, dance to their own music.
The musical was a collaboration between the students and Todd Fletcher, a composer from New York. A genuine transatlantic success story!.
The kids rehearsed for months on end. It turned out to be a very enriching experience, it was quite a process, but the kids mustered enough self-confidence and courage to perform.
Their parents are originally from Africa, Bosnia, Palestine or Turkey. They came to Germany hoping to find a better life. Yet, a lot of these kids feel that they are not welcome here in Germany, that they will forever remain "foreigners".
The musical illustrates that these kids have abilities and talents if given a proper chance ; that happens to be the very subject matter of the musical!
This and much more will be the subject of a radio special dedicated to the "Streets of Wedding" to be aired soon on radijojo. Here , you may see a couple of highlights.
p.s. Radijojo´s HQ happens to be in Wedding, we know very well the difficult situation described in the musical.
We are happy and intent on showing through this broadcast that Wedding isn´t a ghetto at all ! These kids have talent!
So, enjoy the show!
