Summary: The first performance by Chicago teenager Sean Reed, here he reads about his perception of integrity and how it relates to identity - a wonderful poem about the complexities of identity in America, especially for a young black male.
This poetry reading has a great cadence and tone to catch listeners. It grabbed my attention immediately, especially since we usually don't hear poetry performed on the radio.
It's well written and the length makes it quite flexible to drop into any optional cutaway slot, including WESUN, WESAT or Studio 360.
This teenager teaches volumes to a 49-year old; this piece has been aired on NPR but it inspired me enough to track it down here; I am of a age where the system and the man are becoming crystal clear and I was astonished on how much this poet gets it already. But it does not come across as the angst of a young person. It's just insightful and energizing - speaks to anyone.
