Karda Estra is the recording persona of English composer Richard Wileman. He started out as a rocker but veered into composing classical works for chamber ensembles and electric guitar. His imagery tends to be gothic and his music dramatic. We'll talk to him about a sound that falls between progressive rock and classical cracks.

Echo Location
is a 3 1/2 minute weekly feature that focuses on an artist, event, album or trend in new music. With his long and deep relationship with new music as a radio producer and music journalist, John Diliberto shares the excitement of new discoveries with Echo Location. RW: ....there is a Hammer horror film called “Plague of the zombies” and there was a voodoo chant in that goes Karda Estra or Karda Nostra or something along those lines.

And, it kind of stuck with me that I was looking for a project name that hopefully nobody else had thought of. And I thought “yeah, nobody has thought about that one” so I used that.

KARDA ESTRA IS A DIFFERENT KIND OF GOTHIC MUSIC. RICHARD WILEMAN HE'S MADE ALBUMS BASED ON DRACULA, WRITTEN HOMAGES TO HORROR ACTOR PETER CUSHING AND HIS NEW ALBUM IS CALLED "WEIRD TALES," AFTER THE PULP HORROR MAGAZINE. BUT THE MUSIC OF KARDA ESTRA ISN'T MACABRE.
