TOLD AND RETOLD: WINTER Master storyteller and award winning author Gioia (Joya) Timpanelli (What Makes a Child Lucky and Sometimes the Soul: Two Novellas of Sicily) tells stories, one of our oldest and most vital forms of universal expression. "It is told and retold" is a traditional Italian story opening that shows the way in which the form moves like the seasons from generation to generation and from the local to the universal. This hour-long program includes contemporary stories and draws heavily on natural history. Program segments include readings by Kate Barnes, Robert Bly and Eric Darton with readings from Lewis Hyde and Thomas Hardy. Interwoven with music, by Tom Waits, Bob Dylan, Billie Holliday, Susan Osborne and Artie Traum, the program ends with a telling of "The Shoemaker and the Elves," followed by a lively conversation with Timpanelli and Bly on the old story and its significance now. In many cultures winter is the time for gifts and gift giving. We offer this winter gift of stories, poetry and conversation between friends. More information about Gioia Timpanelli and Robert Bly can be found by visiting gioiatimpanelli.net. or http://www.blueflowerarts.com.

told and retoldone of the best hours spent listening to radio in a very long time. the human voice coupled with something worth its weight in gold to listen to...along with the befitting choice of music & guests...makes this show soar. and nobody can tell a story better than gioia timpanelli! |

Spring Told and RetoldI loved this! It fed a part of me that only very rarely gets nurturedw by today's media. The connections drawn between things (like art and the ineffable; love and transformation) is what I'm talking about as far as food and nurturance. I loved the comparison of the year to a single breath!
