Emily Warn reads “The Hand of God” from her newest collection, SHADOW ARCHITECT (Copper Canyon Press, 2008), which is based on her contemplation of the 22 letters of the Hebrew alphabet. For KUOW’s literary producer Elizabeth Austen, the poem is an example of poetry’s power to help her contemplate what would otherwise be overwhelming.

Warn is the author of two previous collections of poetry, THE NOVICE INSOMNIAC (1996) and THE LEAF PATH (1982), both from Copper Canyon Press. Her reading was recorded January 27, 2009 at Open Books in Seattle, Wash. by John O’Brien.
