Spend a morning with Salt Lake’s lone neighborhood recycling enforcer, Mitch Davis, as he combats contamination. Currently the city’s biggest challenge with mixed-waste curbside recycling is preventing the spread of contamination from residents putting food, bathroom waste, diapers, and other non-recyclable materials into their recycling bins. The city has also made illustrated and bilingual pamphlets for its quickly growing non-English speaking population.
