Cast-Off Medical Supplies Find Home in Cuba

From: Ann Murray
Length: 00:05:58

A Pittsburgh-based organization sends discarded US medical supplies to Cuba's cash-strapped health care system. Read the full description.

Cuba_small WYEP's Ann Murray travels to Cuba to report first-hand on the work of Pittsburgh-based medical aid group Global Links. By recovering thousands of tons of unused medical supplies from Pittsburgh-area hospitals and distributing them to hospitals and clinics in developing countries, Global Links helps save lives while reducing pollution, waste and health care costs in the United States. But it's hard work. The group depends on hundreds of volunteers to help sort and assess supplies. They send only requested materials so they don't shift the burden of dealing with hospital cast-offs to facilities in other countries.
