The Blues File is a weekly snapshot of a topic of interest in the musical &
cultural world of "the blues." The Blues File offers reviews of albums,
previews of blues events, artist profiles, glimpses into blues history, and
observations of current blues trends.
Blues File host Jonny Meister has been the host of The Blues Show on
WXPN-FM in Philadelphia for twenty-eight years. The Blues Show covers the
blues from its earliest days to its latest offerings, with reference to the
history of the form and its place in the world of music. Meister has taught
courses on blues at the University of Pennsylvania, written liner notes for
numerous blues albums, and consulted on the Wim Wenders film "The Soul Of A
Man." The Blues Show was chosen in 1996 by Philadelphia Magazine as the
best local radio show in Philadelphia, and Meister received a "Keeping The
Blues Alive" award from The Blues Foundation in Memphis in 2000 for work in
public radio.
This piece first aired on WXPN-FM on February 24, 2005.
