Piece Description

Guy Davis will join us on this show to sing songs from his new album "Sweetheart Like You" and talk about his life and music. Davis comes from a show-biz family. His father, the late Ossie Davis, and his mother Ruby Dee, were noted actors. Guy grew up familiar with the life of the theater, but decided to draw on his family's heritage and get into the blues when the show-biz bug bit him. He plays several instruments and tells some good stories. Also on this show we'll open up the new album from The Bad Plus. This post-jazz/grundge trio works with vocalist Wendy Lewis on some of the songs on their album "For All I Care" -- their first outing with a singer. One of these songs was in the news during the recent Presidential campaign. Also, new music from Fuze, that is, energetic and inventive guitarist David Fiuczynski, on an album called "KiF Express." Fuze is a master of the rarely-played fretless guitar. Fuze is a member of Hiromi's Sonicbloom with pianist Hiromi Uehara, and we'll hear from them too.
