Saffire The Uppity Blues Women have decided to wrap it up, with a final album and tour. The album "Havin' The Last Word" is featured on this show. The trio of women in Saffire have made some keen observations on society and women's place in it for two decades. The sadness of their departure is mitigated by the joyful undertow of their music, which is fully evident on their farewell release. We'll also hear from tenor sax player Bennie Golson, who turned 80 in January. He has a solid new album out called "New Time, New 'Tet" referring to his Jazztet of years ago. McCoy Tyner got an early gig as pianist with Golson's Jazztet with trumpeter Art Farmer. We'll hear a track from them, and one from Tyner's latest album "Guitars" with Bill Frissell on guitar. And -- pianist Amina Figarova celebrates the quadricentennial of Henry Hudson's voyage in search of a northwest passage to Asia, on her latest album Above The Clouds -- a native of Azerbaijan, Figarova now lives in the Netherlands, Hudson's point of departure in 1609.
