Piece Description
In the rigid theocracy of Salem, Massachusetts, rumors that women are practicing witchcraft galvanize the town. Neighbor testifies against neighbor while fear and intolerance overwhelm the community. It's no coincidence that when Arthur Miller was writing "The Crucible", the United States was caught up in another wave of fevered accusations and false confessions, as Senator Joseph McCarthy led his anti-Communist witch hunts. Also starring Rene Auberjonois, Ed Begley Jr., Georgia Brown, Bud Cort, Judyann Elder, Hector Elizondo, Carol Kane, Anna Sophie Loewenberg, Marian Mercer, Joe Spano, and Michael York. Directed by Martin Jenkins.
