Blues File review of Chuck Berry boxed set "You Never Can Tell: His Complete Chess Recordings 1960-1966" Read the full description.

Chuckberry_small Few artists can match Chuck Berry for his influence and popularity. He was a huge influence to Elvis Presley, the Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. This boxed set ("You Never Can Tell: His Complete Chess Recordings 1960-1966") starts in 1960, after many, but by no means all, of Berry's hits had come out. The set includes some big 60s hits like "Nadine" and "No Particular Place To Go" written while he was in prison. The set also includes some of Berry's best blues recordings, and showcases his diverse musical talents. He played pedal steel, could sing in Spanish, and mastered many styles including calypso. A set of live performances also gives us a rare glimpse/listen at his stand-up comic/social commenatry side
