Piece Description
On this Blues & Beyond program, we'll hear new music from bassist Stanley Clarke and his trio; "Jazz In The Garden" includes the great pianist Hiromi Uehara. Clarke is most famous for his work in the band Return To Forever, with Chick Corea, Al DiMeola, and others over the years, including drummer Lenny White, who is now in his current trio. Although known as a jazz player, much of Clarke's music hasn't really been jazz, and, in fact, this is his first acoustic bass album. Hiromi's presence is quite welcome. She is one of the world's leading pianists at this point. The program also features a track by Otis Taylor on which she plays some trance-inducing piano.
We'll also open up the second Chicago Blues Harmonica Project album on this show. Coming out four years after the first one, it follows the same format -- featuring four harmonica players -- though it's four different harmonica players this time around, including the late Little Arthur Duncan. We have the latest from blues and soul singer Charles Wilson, a nephew of the late and great Little Milton, music from Fareed Haque and The Flat Earth Ensemble, and a live recording of Muddy Waters, an album with the curious title "Authorized Bootleg" -- with a prominent anti-piracy warning on the back cover.
