INTRO The Poospatuck Indian reservation on the south shore of Long Island is the cheapest place around to buy cigarettes because they aren’t taxed. But currently there are multiple lawsuits in New York challenging their right to sell untaxed cigarettes to outsiders. We’ll talk with a lawyer about that in a few minutes. But first we wanted to ask the question, is a booming tobacco good for those living on the reservation? Initially you would think yes because each carton of cigarettes sold on the reservation earns the tribe $1. But as WSHU’s Charles Lane reports not everyone in the tribe sees that revenue. (:23)
