We continue our series, New American Voices now with an in depth report. From the day an immigrant arrives to this country, they negotiate so much that is new. A swirl of English, finding work, a place to stay. All this ….and in some places, they run up against resentment and hostility.

Today, we visit one community where that dynamic led to a brutal attack and murder of an immigrant last November. It happened in the streets of Patchogue, Long Island when seven white teenagers allegedly assaulted and killed Marcello Lucero. They are now awaiting trial for his death.

Over the past decade, the small town of Patchogue has become a destination for Latino immigrants- many from Ecuador. Our story comes now from Reporter Charles Lane from WSHU who has been looking into the assault and its aftermath…and he reports the attack was not an isolated incident.
