Jorma Kaukonen is best known as a founding member of the seminal psychedelic rock band Jefferson Airplane, but his first love is American roots music. On this edition of "A Musician's Life" Jorma tells Tracey Tanenbaum that when he was growing up the guitar wasn't the hip instrument its become since the 1960's. Read the full description.

Jormakaukonen_small Jorma Kaukonen is considered one of the best guitar players around.  His acid rock guitar contributed to Jefferson Airplane's distinctive sound in the 1960's.  After leaving Jefferson Airplane Jorma went on to play in Hot Tuna and also forged a solo career.  His solo work in particular reflects his deep love of roots music--a love he developed growing up in Washington DC in the 1940's & 1950's.  Jorma's latest album is called "River of Time".
