Why is the Carter Family important? Two things: The songs they sang really touched listeners. Sara, AP and Maybelle really caught the ears of listeners in the 1920’s and in one form or another, the Carter Family’s popularity ran for decades. As for the group’s legacy: it was insured by young listeners who became artists wanting to sing their songs.
