Historythisweek_12kxgif_small In a recent announcement televised on March 30 this year [2009], American President Barack Obama told the nation how he plans to get government control over the private business rights of the two automotive companies -- GMC and Chrysler.

This week in history, we look back to when a former President attempted to take over the Steel Mills during a labor dispute at the time of the Koren Conflict.  President Harry S. Truman had a history of having seized over TWO DOZEN businesses during little more than his first year in office in 1945-1946 -- some of which were entire industries, such as railroads and the meat packers.  But when he attempted to take over the steel Mills, the US Supreme Court forbade him!!!  Hear the story and the contrast to today's events here.

In a recent announcement televised on March 30 this year [2009], American President Barack Obama told the nation how he plans to get government control over the private business rights of the two automotive companies -- GMC and Chrysler. This being done, in spite of the fact that just last year, in 2008, the two top-selling vehicles in America were GMC's pickups and SUVs. In 2008, GMC's Chevy Malibu was voted car of the year and further, twenty of GMC's vehicles showed profits in 2008 -- and GMC vehicles are very popular overseas. But in spite of these successes, what is it that is turning our economic successes into economic national woes? -- a time when a number of our major banks all-but-collapsed -- and would have resulted in the demise of confidence in the great Rum & Coca Cola American dollar -- the Yankee dollar as some parts of the world still call it -- and even though the ba...
