Piece Description

When she was eight years old, Amanda was thrown from a truck. The driver was drunk, speeding and driving recklessly. He was Amanda’s soon-to-be ex-stepfather. He hadn’t put Amanda in her seatbelt.

Haley receives formula through the feeding tube, to supplement the small, oral feedings she eats, often ten times each day.

She has an obscure and, to date, not accurately diagnosed genetic disorder, affecting her autonomic nervous system. Her stomach doesn’t know how to eat.

Brenda dropped out of college when Amanda got hurt. She’s a full time single mother.

When Brenda faces an obstacle to the quality of life of her children, she educates herself on the medical, legal and social aspects of the issue and challenges the institutions and authorities, charged with their care.
