The War of the Gods

From Matthew Cowley | 00:12:13
Producers: Matthew Cowley

 Credit:
Epic poem about the Ali-Frazier fight (The Thriller in Manila) by James Tokley.

James Tokley is the Poet Laureate of Tampa, FL. A professor told him there were no more epic poems because there were no more epic heroes; Tokley decided that Muhammad Ali was one, and so he wrote this poem. It was produced with sound effects and music, and presented in a showcase of his poetry on WMNF's radio theater show.

Review of The War of the Gods

Bravo! I couldn't even get past the E's in listing the tones for the piece. Well produced, read by a real voice. I don't much like poetry; pretty much "Casey at Bat" and Shel Silverstien and I top out. I know, I know. This was good, though, and I think even I can tell. I like the addition of music and "style."

Review of The War of the Gods

As always, Matt's works have many levels. His use of SFX and music fit just right for this piece. Nostalgic, and has a cool, smooth pace to it.

Very nice production and presentation of
the content. The music and sound effects were a nice addition while never distracting from the voice.

While I had my quams reading the description about content, the piece was a good listen.
While I'm not much of a fan of poetry, this was different and worked.
