Today we start a weeklong look at the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. It's been more than 40 years since Dr. King was assassinated- in April 1968. King was, of course, one of the primary leaders of the American civil rights movement and his “I Have a Dream” speech in 1963 established him as one of the great orators of his time.
Later this week we’ll air for you some of the Massey lectures that King recorded for CBC Radio in 1967. We’ll also have a look at post segregationist Atlanta and reaction to his assassination.
Today a documentary made in 1962 for the CBC Radio program “Project ’62.” It’s an hour-long look at the career and philosophy of Dr. King before he made his famous “I Have a Dream” speech, but as he was becoming a national figure.
