Blues & Beyond #131: Irma Thomas is "Simply Grand" - plus new music from Steve Ramsdell

Series: Blues & Beyond
From: WXPN
Length: 00:59:04

Irma Thomas album "Simply Grand" is featured; also others from the Crescent City, and guitarist Steve Ramsdell from the Windy City. Read the full description.

Irmathomas_small Irma Thomas's new album "Simply Grand" finds her in the company of some very talented pianists, playing grand pianos to accompany her soulful singing. Dr. John and Henry Butler are included in that number, and the album is a strong follow-up to her highly-regarded 2006 release "After The Rain." We'll play a track from Dr. John's latest album as well, and while we're in the Crescent City, we'll hear from Wynton Marsalis and Willie Nelson (who isn't from N. O.) who have a live album together out recorded at Lincoln Center. We also have new live music from super bassist & vocalist Richard Bona, a track from tenor sax player Javon Jackson and group, and new music from Chicago jazz guitarist Steve Ramsdell
