Review of Lust for LipstickI found the visual descriptions in this piece the most exciting. I love picturing the huge cylinders of lipstick, the detailed makeup descriptions and the mom. The music makes me wish there was more acbkground sounds to give me context as well. I wish we didn't know about Lyod and the factory visit before the story gets told. Ladling lipstick is a great image. |

BOND/ Lust for Lipstick
B-SIDE
I can pin-point my lust for lipstick to a morning in suburban Texas, when I was ten years old.
My mom has this saying: "Pretty is as pretty does."
It doesn't mean what you think it means.
What it means is: If you don’t do the things that make you pretty, God will not love you. God doesn’t like people who won’t even TRY.
And in Texas you want God to love you. Or, at the very least, for everyone to think he does.
So one Sunday morning when I was ten , I had this sudden and ill-conceived notion to walk down the aisle at church during an invitation hymn.
This is a song the congregation sings after the sermon.
If you walk down the aisle during the invitation, you’re saying you want Jesus to forgive your sins. So they dunk you in some water in a baptistery - which is like a giant hot-tub hidden by ferns behind the pulpit....

Review of Lust for Lipstick
This is a creative, conversational piece detailing one woman's love/hate relationship with makeup. I like the transistion from the childhood church memories to the art installation baptistry. I also like the idea of a "lust" for lipstick. Good use of music.
