Piece Description
He was one of the true legends or rock n’ roll, recording alongside Elvis, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins –all the greats. And yet twenty years after his untimely death on December 6th, 1988, one could argue that Roy Orbison hasn’t received the credit he’s due. Roy Orbison was more than just a rock n’ roll pioneer: he was rock’s first great singer --gifted with a four octave range and a vocal quality often compared to the great Italian opera stars. Here’s the story of a West Texas original, hosted by David Brown and produced by KUT Austin's award-winning music journalism unit "Texas Music Matters".
(This program includes interview material used in Joyride Media's excellent production "Roy Orbison: The Soul of Rock and Roll", also available here on PRX.org. Our thanks to Josh Jackson at Joyride Media for making our program possible.)

nice piece! As a longtime fan of Roy Orbison,I enjoyed this program a lot. I wasn't crazy about the promo (advertisement) at the top because it broke the flow and was a startling change of tone but I'd still recommend the piece to other fans. |
