Piece Description
"Sounds, Cymbals and Sin: The Story of San Marcos"
Produced by Kent Paterson and Mercedes Mejia at the studios of KUNM-FM in October 2008.
The program is an exploration of Mexico’s San Marcos National Fair, held every spring in Aguascalientes. Drawing millions of visitors, San Marcos is a celebration on the level of Mardi Gras or Carnaval.
Rich with music and ambient fair sounds, the documentary is an exploration of the social, cultural, economic and political meaning of San Marcos. Also explores the issue of sexuality.
The documentary is a multi-textured profile of a Mexican phenomenon that is virtually unknown in the United States.
