The Antarctic Tapes: "The Landings of 14 / 15 November '94"
Series: Visions...A Series Of Visits To (Almost) Everywhere!
From: Herb Malsman
Length: 01:25:16
The Longest Day...11.14.94! Sunrise: 0400 / Sunset; 2139. Zodiacs ashore at 0715: Zodiac Shuttle service begins between ship & shore. 0800: last Zodiac from shore-to-ship. Explorer sails for Deception Island. Between 1000-1030, we expect to enter Neptune's Bellows, the narrow entrance to the flooded crater at Deception. Our schedule for the remainder of the day will depend on the ice conditions inside the crater, known as Port Foster. On this edition of Visions, Herb Malsman puts 'em on, and takes 'em off, goes for a brisk dip on mist-shrouded beach in the chilly South Atlantic... and takes a sentimental journey home with Lord Shackleton's "phenomenon," polar pioneer Sir Wally Herbert. Thanks for the memories. "Civilization exists by geological consent, subject to change without notice." -Will Durant Farewell Explorer. Goodbye Sir Wally.
