Piece Description

trans⋅na⋅tion⋅al [trans-nash-uh-nl, tranz-]
adjective
Reaching beyond or extending across national boundaries.

An Oaxacan man shares his life between three cities: San Juan Mixtepec (a village in the heart of southern Mexico), Ensenada (a beachside border town) and Portland, Oregon (the city of his opportunity). Like many who live a transnational existence, “Carlos” undergoes a transformation.  His numerous journeys back-and-forth across the border afford him the chance to see the state of his country as a stranger would.  And the day he recongnizes the inflated price of milk in his hometown, is the day he changes his future forever.

IT’S SHARED BETWEEN THREE DISTINCT LOCATIONS: THE MIXTECA, ENSENADA, AND A CITY FOUND TO THE FAR NORTH OF THE UNITED STATES, PORTLAND, OREGON. I HOPE YOU LIKE IT.

And everyone passing me on the street is sitting inside their cars, the heat blasting, all bundled up. And me, in this moment, all I’ve got is a thi...
