The Apple of My Eye:
We start every show with our unique, a capella theme song about traveling, through the power of your imagination. The nostalgic atmosphere of Fall (where childhood memories are made) encloses this episode.
Our “sing and dance-along” song is an old folk song by an expressive old folk singer. All warmed up for guided imagery, we’re join a journey through the tastes, touch, texture and scents of different varieties of apples and then an oral-motor work out with varied muscle sensations and movements.
Switch tempo to an instrumental tune.
Transition to active attention by punching up the pace with jokes and laughs.
Now we answer that age-old question…”Do Apples Have a destiny?” Our radio drama lifts us into the treetops to listen in on a conversation between a variety of apples, all grafted together on one old tree. They talk about what they want to be in the future, such as a pie, an applesauce, a cider. There is a contrast in personalities. Themes of tolerance and appreciation of diversity are introduced.
Then we slow the pace for transition to closing with poetry that addresses feeling connected to the change and saying “good-bye” brought up by shifting seasons. The closing speaks directly to each child.
