INTRO: When Woodrow Wilson declared Mother’s day in 1914, there probably weren’t many two-mother families like Martha Murray and Jenifer Shapland’s of Juneau. They’ve been together for almost 23 years, and are raising two boys. AK’s Scott Burton spoke to the family about life with two moms.
SOUND: IN KITCHEN, FOOD PREP
NAR: As their two children, play with the neighbor kids outside, mom and mom are preparing for diner in their kitchen. The two met at a pot luck thanksgiving dinner and Martha says Jenifer impressed her so much she asked her out again that same night.
MARTHA: [impressed] I’m not usually the kind of person who asks someone out for a date when they first met ‘em, but I guess I just thought she was really fun..I still think that. JEN: I fooled her pretty good huh?
