The 20th Century was when the United States took its place as a world leader. The US came out of World War One and World War Two the winner ? without anyone ever touching our homeland. And by the 1940s, America was a Superpower, with a military and an economy unmatched in the world. At the beginning of the century though, we were nothing at all like that.
